Widows With Purpose: Giving Strength Back to the Pillars of Our Community

When a woman is empowered, a community is transformed.

At Jyreh Foundation, we believe widows are not victims, they are survivors. And when given the tools, they become thrivers.

In many communities across Nigeria, widows face double discrimination: first from grief, then from culture. They are often denied their rights, dignity, and voices.

We decided to rewrite their story.

Skills, Strength, and Sustainability

Our women’s empowerment program includes:

  • Skills training.
  • Counseling and emotional healing
  • Startup kits and microgrants
  • Peer mentorship and community support

It’s not charity, it’s empowerment.

Take Mary, for example. After losing her husband, she was left with three children and no source of income. She was one of the beneficiaries of our women empowerment program and now earns enough to care for her family.

“You didn’t just give me help, you gave me back my name.” – Mary

From Dependency to Destiny

We don’t want widows to merely survive, we want them to lead. And they do.

Several of our empowered women now serve as mentors in their communities. They are business owners, caregivers, teachers, and beacons of strength.
